Mayor Karachi, Farooq Sattar cross swords over anti-encroachment drive

KARACHI: Former convener of Muttahida Quami Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) Farooq Sattar while taking an aim at Mayor Karachi said, “Waseem Akhtar was voted to construct Karachi not destroy it.”

According to details, Sattar was speaking to media outside an anti-terrorism court on Saturday. Commenting on the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in Karachi, he said, 500,000 people have become homeless due to the operation in the metropolis.

“Waseem Akhtar should try to get votes from Karachi now,” the disgruntled MQM-P leader lashed out at his political party fellow.

Pointing out major flaws in the anti-encroachment drive, Sattar said, “Supreme Court should remove illegal occupation and not markets that have been there for 50 years. A policy should be made by shop-keepers and traders on encroachments. Homelessness will only lead to crime rising in the city.”

Farooq Sattar tried to destroy MQM-P: Mayor Karachi

On the other hand, when media approached the Mayor Karachi for his reply over the statement of his erstwhile party chief, he remarked, “What should I respond to Farooq Sattar’s talk? I don’t even know which party he belongs to.”

“If I destroyed Karachi then Farooq Sattar tried to destro the MQM,” he added.

Waseem Akhtar further advised his Sattar that he should only focus on worshiping Allah now.
