“Thank you to all the supporters and also to all the haters, it has only made me stronger . The last couple weeks have been quite an eye-opener for me,” wrote Punjab Nahi Jaungi actress Mehwish Hayat in a long post on her Instagram page.
In her first response to all the hate she received on social media by some unscrupulous elements after receiving the prestigious Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, the actress said that the last couple of weeks have been an “eye-opener” for her but maintained that all this hate has made her stronger than ever.
The actress, however, came down hard on elements who used abusive language against her and questioned her credentials for receiving the prestigious honour by using foul language.
“We may be part of an industry that is seen to be glamorous – but it doesn’t mean that we have forsaken our morals. What gives anybody the right to drag my name into the gutter with crude insinuations,” wrote the Dil Lagi actress, adding that using abusive language is an abhorrent slur on all the hard working women in our country.
The actress used #nomoresilence hashtag for the post which can be called a befitting reply to all the unscrupulous elements on social media.
Ms Hayat received the honour on Pakistan Day for her successful acting projects like “Punjab Nahi Jaungi”, “Jawani Phir Nahi Ani” and others which contributed to the revival of cinema in Pakistan.
The actress is also know for her powerful performances on mini-screen with dramas like ARY Digital’s ‘Dil Lagi’.
Soon after receiving the award, the actress not only narrated her journey but dedicated the award to all the “girls with a dream”.
