Missing activist Salman Haider finds way back home

KARACHI: Salman Haider, poet and rights activist who went missing earlier this month from the federal capital has reached his home the previous night, police and family sources confirmed on Saturday.

Brother has also confirmed media reports that “Salman has safely returned home”.

However, no official statement was released on his return or reappearance until this story was filed.

Haider, who has written for the country’s largest English-language newspaper and teaches at Fatima Jinnah Women’s University in the city of Rawalpindi, some 15km from capital Islamabad, disappeared on January 6 in the capital.

He reportedly went to Banigala on Friday and his car was later recovered after his wife received a SMS on her mobile phone to collect it from Koral Chowk.

The United Nations and international human rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch, had also voiced concerns about his sudden disappearance.
