According to media reports, the engineer was on a ‘chilla’ (a spiritual practice of penance and solitude arranged by a religious organisation) at a Lahore mosque.
The man had gone missing from Pakpattan where he had arrived to reportedly see his in-laws.
Police said Engineer Muhammad Yousaf, whose Chinese name was Yeuhi, had gone to do Chilla at a mosque in Lahore without even informing his wife Sumera, who resides in Shahidi Mohalla, Pakpattan.
Sumera filed a complaint with Pakpattan city police station, stating about suden disapperance of her husband. The complaint was lodged by against unknown “kidnappers”.
A deputy superintendent of police formed a team to find the engineer. The team included DSP Shahida Noureen, SHOs Saifur Rehman and Nadeem Iqbal, security branch in charge Abdul Malik and Muhamad Khurram.

Reports claimed that police discovered the Chinese national got converted to Islam after he was in touch with Tableeghi Jamaat. Later his friend Haji Iqbal also arranged his marriage with a girl from Pakpttan in February 2016.
China is one of Pakistan’s main allies and there are thousands of Chinese engineers and other workers in Pakistan helping on infrastructure projects including nuclear power plants, dams and roads.
In November 2014, Beijing announced Islamabad investment worth $42 billion over the coming years, much of it focused on the energy sector where Pakistan suffers chronic and economically damaging shortages.
