KARACHI: Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) has launched a new mobile application to extend help to the fishermen facing emergency situation anywhere within Pakistan’s territorial waters.
Titled “Assistance, Anytime, Anywhere at Sea (AAAS)” the online app to facilitate maritime communities within Pakistan’s territorial waters.
The fishermen support mobile application was launched in a ceremony at the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) headquarters here.
The application is available in English, Urdu, Sindhi and Balochi languages.
Vice Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Kaleem Shaukat was the chief guest of the ceremony, attended by PMSA Director General Rear Admiral Zakaur Rehman, officers, senior fisheries officials from Sindh and Balochistan and members of the fishermen community.
The PMSA DG in his welcome address said that Pakistan has a large coastline of approximately 1,000 km. “PMSA is responsible for search and rescue in an area of 840 nautical miles from Pakistan’s coast to the deep sea,” he said, adding that PMSA keeps the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) and Disaster Response Centre (DRC) maintained round the clock to meet to any contingency.
Vice Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Kaleem Shaukat during his address in the event said one of the PMSA’s top priorities is to protect and provide assistance to fishermen and their vessels at sea.”
The newly introduced application would help fishermen facing any problem at sea, he added.
