LAHORE: The second joint investigation team (JIT), constituted to probe Model Town carnage of 2014, on Thursday interrogated leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and recorded their statements, ARY News reported.
The probe team rejected the plea of PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif for recording his statement without appearing before the JIT.
Sharif’s lawyer appealed before the JIT to grant his client should be given exemption because of his ailing condition. However, the investigators responded that Sharif could appear before the JIT once his condition gets better.

It is expected that Shehbaz Sharif may be summoned again next by the joint investigation team.
Earlier in the day, PML-N leaders Pervez Rasheed, Khawaja Asif and Rana Sanaullah appeared before the Joint Investigation Team of Model Town carnage to record their statements.
Sanaullah later talking to media said, ” we appeared before the JIT and presented our stance that formation of this JIT is unlawful.”
” JIT could not be constituted in a case after submitting challan and framing charges,” Sanaullah said. The JIT could not be formed again when the Model Town trial already in progress in court, he said.
On June 17, 2014, at least 14 people were killed and 100 others injured when the police opened fire to disperse protesting Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers during an anti-encroachment operation outside the residence of PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri in Model Town Lahore.
