With each passing day, upcoming general elections are taking over Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It appears as Modi is suffering from a worst kind of pre-elections anxiety, apart from recent warmongering against Pakistan, he launched a Twitter blitz on early morning of Wednesday, perhaps to cope with his morning sickness.
In 29 rapid-fire tweets, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader tagged Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh and many other noted figures asking them to urge 900 million Indian voters to cast ballot in mammoth polls.
In one of his tweets, Modi picked famous dialogues from blockbuster movies “Gully Boy” and “Uri: The Surgical Strike” and tagged Ranveer Singh, Varun Dhawan and Vicky Kaushal, calling them as ‘young friends’ .
“It is time to tell them (youngsters): Apna Time Aa Gaya Hai (our time has come) and that it is time to turn up with high Josh (fervour) to a voting centre near you,” Modi wrote.
The sphere of Modi’s publicity
stint touched the boundaries of cricket too, as he mentioned Virat Kohli, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rohit Sharma asking them to inspire others to exercise their right of vote.
“Dear @msdhoni, @imVkohli and @ImRo45. You are always setting outstanding records on the cricketing field but this time, do inspire the (1.3 billion) people of India to set a new record of high voter turnout in the upcoming elections,” one message ran. “When this happens, democracy will be the winner!”
Modi, 68, also approached his political rivals, including Rahul Gandhi who heads the centre-left Congress party.
“A high turnout augurs well for our democratic fabric,” he said in his tweet addressing renowned Indian politicians.
Narendra Modi’s right-wing Hindu nationalist BJP formed government for the first time in 2014 almost after three decades since the party’s establishment.
India will cast votes between April 11 and May 19 while election results are due on May 23.
