Massive traffic jam on Karachi-Hyderabad motorway continues

KARACHI: The flow of traffic was badly affected along Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway due to ongoing uplift work, causing hardship to motorists and leading to huge snarl-up, ARY News reported.

According to reports, the ongoing work could not be completed even after more than eighteen hours resulting in traffic disruption. The Pakistan Rangers have been called in after the motorway police failed to restore traffic flow.

Motorway police said the construction work was underway on the motorway and an alternate route was provided to motorists, but a heavy vehicle overturned on the route broke causing massive traffic jam on both sides.

Many people along with their vehicles were left stranded in the traffic jam and even ran out of fuel. Ambulances carrying patients were also said to be stuck in the gridlock, making the situation worse.

It may take several hours before traffic is completely restored. Many motorists expressed anger and said that the government has increased toll charges, but has failed to construct proper roads and improve traffic issues.

Separately, at least four passengers died and 20 others injured when a passenger bus turned upside down along Indus highway. All the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.
