FIA gets green signal to approach Interpol for MQM founder Altaf Hussain’s arrest

ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Interior has approved Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) request to issue a red warrant against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) London-based founder Altaf Hussain, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

According to ARY News correspondent Zulqarnain Haider,  the request for issuance of red warrant of MQM founder was sent by Sindh government to FIA as courts had declared Altaf Hussain wanted in a number of cases including murder and terrorism.

An anti-terrorism court in Karachi had also sought to make MQM chief’s presence mandatory.

Issuance of a red warrant means FIA can now contact Interpol for extradition of MQM chief Altaf Hussain from London.

‘A big development’

British MP Naz Shah, while talking to ARY News, termed the issuance of red warrant against Altaf Hussain ‘a big development’ and said that the extradition will be sought through Interpol.

“This is a legal matter and there is nothing stopping an extradition. In the recent past, some extraditions have occurred between Pakistan and UK,” said the Bradford West MP.

Ms Shah claimed that she will ask Home Secretary and will also meet Seniro Commander Scotland Yard and will raise the issue with them.
