MQM founder, Baloch leaders given ‘safe abode’ in UK: NSA Janjua

ISLAMABAD: While discussing the issue of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain, National Security Adviser Nasser Janjua on Tuesday said that it is unfortunate that United Kingdom prefers individuals over state relationship.

Mr. Janjua met a British parliamentary delegation and discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Pakistan and UK, and also discussed regional and global issues significant for both countries.

In addition to Altaf Hussain, he mentioned some Baloch leaders who have sought safe abode in UK, and elaborately explained how UK prefers individuals over state relationship.

They also discussed the relationship with India, Kashmir dispute and India’s threat to stop water to Pakistan. Mr. Janjua explained how the fragile security architecture of the region is fast coming under stress and has started to suffer serious imbalance.

Mr. Janjua said that Pakistan highly values its strategic relationship with UK.  He urged UK to have a balanced regional approach as the imbalance in the region needs to be retrieved and restored immediately.

He also apprised the delegates of a greater and brighter future which Pakistan holds by providing largest geo-strategic connectivity to the world.

He stressed the need for further improve understanding, strengthen ties and explore more areas of cooperation between the two countries.

The members of delegation sought the opinion of National Security Adviser on many serious issues and challenges faced both by UK and Pakistan.

Mr. Janjua also briefed the visiting delegation at length about the rise of extremism, conflict in the Muslim world, rise of ISIS, and the resilience and sacrifices of Pakistan, and implementation of the National Action Plan.

The delegation sought opinion of NSA on many serious issues faced by UK and Pakistan, ending conflicts in the region, control and restraints of social media to stop spread of extremism.

The leader of the delegation said that UK understands and acknowledges the role and resilience of Pakistan against terrorism. He expressed desire to strengthen and diversify relations with Pakistan to face future challenges together.
