ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) leader Khawaja Sohail Mansoor has bid a staggering ninety million rupees for a Mercedes car auctioned at the Prime Minister’s House.
Mansoor claims that that highest briefing has been made by him. He said that would give an extra five million if the money was deposited in the dams fund.
“I did not know the prime ministers used such expensive vehicles,” he said.
Khawaja Sohail Mansoor is one the wealthiest members of the MQM, and has even received highest civil award, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, for being the highest taxpayer.
He was member of the National Assembly from 2008 till 2018, but lost the recent general election to Muhammad Akram Cheema of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf from NA-239 Karachi constituency.
Seventy vehicles auctioned at PM House
Around seventy out of 102 of the luxury vehicles at the PM House were auctioned on Monday in the first phase as part of the austerity drive launched by the government.
In the next phase of auction, bulletproof cars will be sold as a part or Prime Minister Imran Khan’s austerity drive, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said.
The vehicles include eight BMWs, three cars of 2014 model and three 5000cc SUVs and two 3000cc SUVs of 2016 model.
The list also contains four Mercedes Benz cars of 2016 model. Two of them are 4,000cc bullet-proof vehicles. There are 16 Toyota cars. One of them is 2004 Lexus car, one 2006 Lexus SUV and two 2004 Land Cruisers. Eight cars range from 2003 to 2013 models.
Apart from these, four bullet-proof Land Cruiser vehicles of 2015 model are also up for auction. There is one Honda Civic 1800cc car and three Suzuki vehicles, including two Cultus cars and one APV, all of them are of 2013 model. The list also includes a 1994 model Hino bus.
Last month, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had said that the government will try to sell the vehicles on the same price at their market value as the auction is aimed at fund-raising.
In his first address to the nation, PM Imran announced the austerity drive and refused to use of heavy fleet of armoured vehicles.
