KARACHI: Aimed to answer the Pakistan People’s Party in a powerful manner for attempting to make inroads in MQM stronghold and to show that it still holds sway in the area, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) is all set to hold a rally today.
All arrangements have been completed for the public meeting at Liaquatabad’s Tanki ground – the same venue where the PPP held a rally on April 29 – with seating arrangements made for 45, 000 people.
Two factions of the MQM-P – Bahadurabad led by Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and PIB Colony by Farooq Satter – had announced to set aside their differences and jointly hold a massive rally.
Party flags along with banners and streamers with the party’s rallying cry “Jag Muhajir Jag” have been put up across the city.
The meeting will start at 5:00 pm and will be addressed by the heads of the both factions.
Speaking to the media earlier today, Sattar said the rally is aimed to maintain unity and cohesion in their rank and file. Referring to the name of the venue, he said the party will answer the PPP how an empty and filled Tanki (water tank) looks like.
Last night, Farooq Sattar and Amir Khan of Bahadurabad group led a rally, which after travelling through different routes reached the venue, where a musical night was also held. To maintain a semblance of unity in their ranks, both leaders travelled in the same vehicle.
