Musharraf challenges arrest warrants in IHC

Malik Tahir Mehmood, counsel of Pervez Musharraf, on Friday filed the petition in IHC on the behalf of his client.

In the petition, it has been mentioned that local court had issued arrest warrants of Pervez Musharraf without considering his medical reports and has requested the court to declare the local court’s arrest order as null and void.

The petition also requested IHC to accept exemption plea of Pervez Mushrraf in the hearing of Ghazi Abdul Rasheed case, which was dismissed by the local court yesterday.

Registrar office of the High Court has accepted Musharraf’s petition for hearing. The petition is likely to be heard by the court today.

Yesterday, Additional Session Judge Wajid Ali Khan issued arrest warrants of the former military ruler for not appearing before the court in the hearing of Ghazi Abdul Rasheed murder case. Surety bond worth Rs1 lakh, submitted by Pervez Musharraf in the previous hearing, was also cancelled.

Musharraf faces a string of court cases dating back to his 1999-2008 rule, including the death of Abdul Rasheed Ghazi, one of more than 100 people killed after Pakistani troops stormed the Lal Masjid (Red Mosque) in Islamabad on July 10, 2007.
