Eid-ul-Azha prayers offered at Mecca, Muslims around world celebrate Eid

MECCA: Eid-ul-Azha prayers have been offered at Masjid al-Haram, the Grand Mosque in Mecca, and Al-Masjid an-Nabawī, also called the Prophet’s Mosque at Medina in Saudi Arabia on Friday (today).

Pilgrims will move to Mina where they will perform the ritual of ‘stoning of the jamarat or the devil’ and sacrifice animals.

On Thursday, around one hundred and seventy-nine thousand Pakistanis among the two million Muslims in Maidan-e- Arafat performed the Waqoof-e-Arafat, the key ritual of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

Dr. Shaykh Sa’d bin Nasir al-Shithri in his sermon urged the faithful to keep fearing Allah and adopt piety. Prodding the path of Allah is the only way of emancipation, the Imam told the believers.

“Islam forbids any excess against any Muslim or non-Muslim. We must fully comply the teachings of Sharia,” the Imam added.

“Save yourselves from nationalism, ethnicity and grouping. Islam prohibits terrorism, violence and bloodshed,” the Sheikh said.

He called upon media of the Muslim world to play role for the unity of Muslim Ummah.

“The peace and tranquility of mind can only be found through the religion,” he said.

The pilgrims listened to Hajj sermon. They offered Zohar and Asr prayers together and stayed at Arafat till the call for Maghrib prayer.

After Azaan-e-Maghrib, they left for Muzdalfa where they offered Maghrib and Isha prayers and spend the night under the open sky.

It merits to mention here that with temperatures pushing 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) under the desert sun, the faithful climbed the hill east of Makkah where the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) gave his last sermon some 14 centuries ago.
