NA-122 by-election: Nominations of PTI, PML-N candidates challenged in court

Awami Tehreek candidate Ishtiaq Chaudhry in his petition filed in Lahore High Court (LHC) challenged approval of the nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) Abdul Aleem Khan and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

The petitioner claimed that a case of land grabbing has been registered in police against the PTI candidate, while former speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq was fined by the election tribunal.

He further pleaded that these two candidates not meeting the requirements set in Article 62 and 63 of the constitution for a candidate of public office.

The petitioner pleaded to the court to declare the decision of the Returning Officer as void who has approved the nomination papers of these candidates setting aside the objections.
