LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday stayed notification of victory of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif’s victory in NA-73 constituency (Sialkot-II), ARY News reported.
The victory notification was stayed following a plea filed by the rival candidate, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Usman Dar, for recounting of votes in the constituency.
The court has also issued a notice in this regard to all the stakeholders including the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), seeking a reply on August 8.
Earlier, the PML-N stalwart still remained victorious in the electoral battle against Dar, after the latter approached the returning officer and had had recount of votes on selected ballots and polling stations.
The RO had turned down his request for recounting the complete votes cast in the constituency, but allowed a recount of only 7,300 rejected votes and 174 postal ballots of 15 polling stations.
