ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has dismissed Director General Nasir Iqbal amid a shuffle at the anti-graft watchdog.
Nasir Iqbal, an officer of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), was serving on deputation as Director General at the NAB’s headquarters in Islamabad.
He previously served as DG Awareness and Prevention and DG NAB Rawalpindi. He has been instructed to report back to the Establishment Division.
Mr Iqbal is considered a close relative of Fawad Hasan Fawad, former principal secretary to the prime minister, who is currently under NAB custody. Fawad is accused in a range of corruption cases including assets beyond known means on income.
Fawad is also the main suspect in the multi-billion Ashiana housing society along with former Lahore Development Authority (LDA) chairman Ahad Cheema. Former chief minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif is also remanded in the case.
The have been several other transfers and posting at the bureau. Grade 22 officer Abid Javed has been appointed as DG NAB Quetta, and Brigadier (retd) Farooq Nasir Awan will now serve as DG NAB in Karachi.
Altaf Bhawani, who was serving as DG Karachi, has been instructed to report at the headquarters in Islamabad. Mirza Irfan Baig has been appointed as DG NAB Sukkur.
Director Fayyaz Qureshi and Additional Director Lahore Ghulam Safdar been also been instructed to report to NAB headquarters.
