NAB starts probe against minister for amassing wealth

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched a probe against Minister of Statistics Kamran Michael for allegedly accumulating assets beyond his known sources of income.

Quoting sources, ARY News reported, a probe has been initiated against the minister for allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Sources said the minister allegedly accumulated assets during his stint as Minister for Ports and Shipping and bureau’s Karachi and Lahore offices have begun gathering evidences in this regard.

Michael held the portfolio of Minister for Ports and Shipping from 2013 to 2016.

It is pertinent to mention here that NAB had earlier filed a reference against former finance minster Ishaq Dar levelling similar charges against him.

Dar has been declared proclaimed offender over his perpetual absence from the trial proceedings conducted by an accountability court against him for allegedly for amassing wealth.

The anti-graft watchdog had filed the reference against the PML-N leader in compliance with the July 28 verdict of the Supreme Court in a case famously known as Panamagate, which resulted in disqualification of former premier Nawaz Sharif.
