He was chairing a preparatory meeting for the United Nations General Assembly to be held on 13th September, where he said that it was their obligation to make the world understand the plight and struggle of the people of Kahmir.
Sharif is expected to address the next session of the UNGA where is likely to highlight the Kashmir issue. He has said that it is an obligation for him as the Prime Minister of Pakistan to be the voice of the people in Indian-Occupied Kashmir.
He said that denial of right to self-determination to Kashmir which is their basic right is one of the persistent failures of the United Nations.
The meeting was attended by Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative at UN Dr. Maliha Lodhi, and the Ambassador to the United States Jalil Abbas Jilani.
