‘We didn’t want it, but it has happened:’ Saad on Nawaz-Nisar rift

ISLAMABAD: With PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif and estranged party leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan still at loggerheads, former railways minister Khawaja Saad Rafique on Friday said the matter concerning the latter got messier while heading towards resolution.

Sharif and Nisar have been at odds for the last few months. Of late, they both made headlines when the former reportedly opposed award of election ticket to the latter for coming general elections.

The estranged leader not only declined to apply for party ticket but also refused to appear before the PML-N parliamentary board for an interview, slamming the process of the award of tickets.

He went on to say that he will not beg for election ticket and that Sharif will not be able to face public if he breaks silence.

In a tweet, party leader and one of the close aides of the Sharif brothers Khawaja Saad Rafique said the matter concerning Nisar was heading to resolution, but got messier in the process.

“We didn’t desire it but now it has happened,” he said.

His tweet suggests the relations between Sharif and Nisar have reached a point of no return.

Nisar has submitted his nominations papers to contest the July 25 polls from NA-59 Rawalpindi, NA-63 Taxila and Punjab Assembly’s PP-10 and PP-12.

He has announced to contest the polls as an independent candidate after the party leadership’s foot-dragging over awarding him election ticket.
