ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khursheed Shah on Friday took a swipe at former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over blasting PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari amid accountability proceedings earlier today.
Speaking to journalists outside National Assembly building, Khursheed Shah called upon Sharif to recall days when he was refusing to hold a meeting with Zardari.
“Who were you pleasing at that time?” the opposition leader posed a question to him.
He said its reaction to Sharif’s previous actions, implying that once he had adopted similar kind of attitude towards the PPP.
Dispelling an impression that the democracy was under threat, Shah noted that it’s a difficult time for the Sharifs and their ruling party.
He advised ex-PM Sharif to refrain from confronting the state institutions following his ouster, as what he said, would harm the democratic norms.
“I advised Sharif to take parliament into confidence over the matter but he did not bother to hear [the] suggestions,” Shah recalled.
He said the former premier should not hold other political parties responsible for his mistakes.
The party had come forward to save Sharif once for the sake of safeguarding democracy in the country, Shah added.
Earlier today, Sharif appeared before an accountability court to face trial where he slammed PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari for adopting a rude behaviour towards him.
“Zardari is pleasing someone else with such attitude,” he said in a brief interaction with journalists within the accountability court premises.
The ousted premier said that he failed to understand as to why he and members of his family were facing court proceedings.
“Have I received bribe”, asked the deposed prime minister and claimed that even the Supreme Court judges had themselves conceded that the cases he was facing did not relate to corruption.
