ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has summoned a high-profile party meeting at Punjab House in Islamabad on Monday (today) to confer with confidantes on infighting and fragmentation within the party.
According to sources, the former premier is also expected to discuss ongoing graft proceedings against the Sharif family members, besides the census, delimitation of constituencies and upcoming general elections are on the agenda.
On Saturday, incumbent Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in London dispelled media reports of internal rifts over taking up the reins of party after ex-PM Sharif’s ouster in Supreme Court landmark verdict on July 28.
He visited London to hold a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, brother of ex-PM Nawaz Sharif
, who said to have a disagreement with the elder brother over the taking the helm of party, sources claimed.
However, PM Abbasi rejected such reports and asserted that he was on an official visit while talking to journalists.
The bond of love between Shehbaz and Nawaz had not weakened, PM Abbasi further claimed.
The meeting at Punjab House is likely to begin in the evening today, a day before the accountability proceedings as former PM Sharif will appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court tomorrow (Tuesday).
According to PML-N sources, the meeting would be attended by senior party leaders and presided over by the former prime minister himself.
