Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Tuesday that Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan soon and he will decide on returning home by himself, ARY News reported.
The interior minister visited Pakistan Consulate in Jeddah where he met the Pakistani community and listened to their issues. Pakistani Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ameer Khurram Rathore was also present on the occasion.
Rana Sanaullah also visited the Military Academy of the Saudi Interior Ministry where he exchanged views on interior matters with the concerned officials. Sanaullah also invited the Military Academy’s general to visit Pakistan.
He said that he received a briefing from the consular general and he will address the issues after returning to Pakistan. The interior minister said that it is the government’s top priority to resolve issues with overseas Pakistanis.
He said that there was a dispute over giving the voting right to overseas Pakistanis for allowing them to cast their votes in Pakistan’s elections while staying abroad.
The interior minister was of the view that the issue could be easily resolved if there was a presidential system in the country. He added that there was a democratic governance system in Pakistan.
“There are more than 200 constituencies, then how many ballot boxes will be placed at the polling stations, whereas, online voting was not credible as the results could be manipulated. There are some issues in giving the voting right to the overseas nationals.”
Sanaullah said that the government prioritised improving the election process in Pakistan which will gradually improve the whole voting system.
He suggested that overseas Pakistanis are sending millions of remittances and they should elect their representatives in their respective countries. He added that the government wants to give maximum rights to overseas nationals which they truly deserve.
