LAHORE: The power generation from Neelum-Jhelum power project has crossed 1000 megawatts of electricity on Tuesday (today), a statement of Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) said.
The power project today generated 1040 megawatts of electricity, which is above the designed capacity of 969 megawatts, a spokesman of WAPDA said in it a statement.
The power generation about the designed capacity of the project demonstrates the high quality of the hydro-electrict project, the spokesman further said.
Chairman WAPDA has congratulted the Neelum-Jhelum power project’s management, especially the engineers for achieving a milestone.
The WAPDA chairman expressed hope that the project will achieve its power generation target of 4.6 billion units of electricity.
The WAPDA in an earlier statement said Neelum-Jhelum power project will supply 4.6 billion units of inexpensive electricity to the national power grid in year 2019-20. The project will generate Rs. 50 billion revenues each year, the statement added.
With the onset of summer increase in the flow of Neelum River, the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project in March reached its peak capacity of producing 969 MW of electricity. All four production units of the plant were running at their maximum. Each unit of the plant can produce 242.25 MW electricity.
The Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project became operational with the commissioning of its first unit on April 13 in 2018.
All four units were commissioned successfully by August 14 last year. The power generation, however, decreased with reducing water flow during the winter.
