ISLAMABAD: Chairman Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Muzzamal Hussain on Saturday said Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project will become fully operational in April next year.
“First unit of the project will start production of electricity by February next year,” he said in a meeting with President Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) Sardar Muhammad Masood Khan in Islamabad.
He said 80 percent work on the transmission line of Neelum-Jhelum Project has been completed.
This should
be noted that Neelum–Jhelum Hydropower Plant project is designed to divert water from Neelum River to a 968MW powers station on the Jhelum River. The project was earlier expected to complete in December 2017.
On this occasion, AJK President said that India is violating Indus Water Treaty and threatening to divert the flow of the rivers.
He underlined the need of building big water reservoirs to meet the water scarcity in the country.
