Transparency, introduction of new technology in power sector govt’s top priority: Omar Ayub Khan

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan said that transparency in power system and introduction of new technology in transmission and distribution systems is one of his top priorities.

During a call on meeting with German Ambassador to Pakistan H.E Martin Kobler on Friday, the minister revealed his plan for digitalization of transmission and distribution system to obtain real time feedback on demand, supply for effective load management.

Omar Ayub Khan apprised the ambassador about challenges in transmission system of Pakistan. He also informed that he is devising a comprehensive plan for re-hauling of transmission and distribution system so that wastage could be minimized.

He reiterated his firm resolve to take all possible measures to eliminate culture of direct hooking with the help of improved technology which would ultimately save Rs250 billion annually which are lost due to line losses and pilferage.

While stressing upon the need of harnessing wind and solar resources, he said that Pakistan is a country which has great potential for solar and wind projects and the present government in its thrust to have large share of renewable power intends to benefit from the experiences of the developed nations.

The minister said that he would take every possible step to exploit the benefits of the clean, affordable, reliable, and sustainable renewable power resources of the country.

The German ambassador applauded the initiatives of present government and offered the support of his country in research and development particularly in the field of renewable energy.

The minister also told the German ambassador about increasing interest of German investors in the field on renewable energy.
