Gen Sher Afgun informed the interior minister about details of the arrest of suspects Khalid Shamim and Mohsin Ali, said to be linked with the murder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Imran Farooq in UK, back in September 2010.
Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan directed the IG FC to shift the suspects to Islamabad.
Moazzam Ali, said to be a facilitator of the two hitmen – Mohsin Ali and Kashif – had earlier named Khalid Shamim for ‘having a role’ in the murder of Dr Farooq.
Reports circulating on media had earlier suggested Mohsin and Kashif to be under custody of an intelligence agency, however the arrest of one of the two suspects was made public today.
On the other hand, MQM Rabita Committee in a statement categorically denied suspects’ affiliation with the party.
“It can be judged as to how far the claim of Khalid Shamim and Mohsin Ali’s arrest on Thursday is true that earlier these suspects were said to be under custody of an agency for past four years, but their arrest was revealed today,” read the statement.
“Regardless of the fact as to who they are, when and where from they were arrested, they have nothing to do with MQM,” said the RC.
Earlier in the evening, FC arrested two suspects at Pak-Afghan border near Chaman, while they were sneaking into the Pakistani territory.
Following the arrest, FC said the ‘arrested suspects belonged to a Karachi-based political party’.
