No plans to remove IGP Khawaja from office: Sindh Govt

KARACHI: Sindh Government on Thursday assured in the court that it has no plans of removing Inspector General Police of Sindh A.D. Khawaja from office, ARY News reported.

Sindh Government’s lawyer made the statement during the hearing of a petition regarding probable removal of A.D. Khawaja as I.G.P. Sindh in the Sindh High Court (SHC).

Advocate General Sindh informed the court that Khawaja was on holidays and has now resumed his duties.

“Sindh Government has no intention of removing Khawaja from his post,” the advocate general told the bench.

The counsels of Interior Ministry and Pakistan Rangers also filed their advocacy papers in the high court.

The court adjourning the hearing of the case till 15th January, ordered the parties in the case to come prepared for the next hearing.

It should be noted I.G. Sindh A.D. Khawaja went on leave on December 19 amid speculations about differences with the government and AIG Karachi police Mushtaq Mahar was given additional charge of the I.G. Sindh.

Some media reports also suggested that A.D. Khawaja has been sent on forced leave after his differences with powers to be.

Sindh Government, however, refuted the reports and claimed that the police chief went on leave on his own.

In December 2016 hearing, Sindh High Court had ordered the government not to remove Khawaja from his office.

The court had issued a stay order after preliminary hearing of the petitions challenging probable removal of A.D. Khawaja. The court had called for replies from the federation, Sindh government and A.D. Khawaja today.
