ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser on Friday adjourned until March 28 the crucial session of the lower house of Parliament that was summoned on the opposition’s requisition to oust Prime Minister Imran Khan through a no-trust motion.

The session was put off until 4pm on Monday after Fateha was offered for late MNA Khayal Zaman.

“It is a parliamentary tradition to adjourn the session when a member of the house passes away,” the speaker said, recalling, “the NA session was adjourned 24 times in the past as per this tradition.”

He assured that he would proceed with the no-confidence motion as per the constitution.

The no-trust resolution filed by the joint opposition against Prime Minister Imran Khan was on the 15-point agenda for today’s session.

Under the constitution, the NA speaker was bound to convene the assembly session within 14 days after submission of the requisition notice to the National Assembly Secretariat by the joint opposition on March 8. However, it was delayed due to the Oraganisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) moot.

Earlier today, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari said he could guarantee 100 per cent success of the no-trust motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

While talking to media at the parliament house, the former president said that joint opposition will stage a strong protest if the NA speaker did not allow the tabling of no-trust motion against PM Khan.

If the resolution calling for a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Imran Khan was not presented in the NA today, the will stage a “sit-in” in the lower house, said Asif Ali Zardari.
