The film is being directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra who is known for films such as Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Rang de Basanti.
But the film is the also the first time in seventeen years that poet and lyricist Gulzar has written a screenplay for a film.
The reason which he gave for not writing the screenplay is simple and bizarre and something which would never guess: Nobody asked him.
The veteran lyricists while speaking to Times of India during the launch of the film’s music said that “Nobody gave me employment from anywhere till I met Rakeysh and his team… now I don’t want to leave his team and I have told him to adopt me”
Harshvardhan Kapoor said: “I have been struggling with you (Gulzar) for 35 years. For almost last 34 years I have been asking Gulzar saab, please take me in your film and that never happened. I want an answer for that but thank you, you made a film with my son.”
Gulzar retorted: “I was telling Harsh your father is going to bash me and tell me I didn’t work with him and worked with his son. Somehow, I kept missing him during casting. I wish you (Anil Kapoor) have employed me once.”
The film Mirzya is a take on the tragic love story of Mirza-Sahiban and is slated to release on 7th October.
