Noor Mukadam case: SC gives bail to Zahir Jaffer's mother

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday granted bail to Asmat Zakir, the mother of the prime suspect in Noor Mukadam murder case, Zahir Jaffer, ARY News reported.

An apex court bench headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial and comprising Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Qazi Ameen conducted the hearing as Advocate Khawaja Haris, counsel for petitioners Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Adamjee, turned up before the court.

Haris stated that Zahir Jaffer was booked on the charge of murdering Noor Mukadam as his parents were in Karachi at the time of the incident. Both the applicants are not the main suspects in the case, he added.

Haris said that his clients are accused of hiding the information about the murder and not informing the police on the time.

The accused remained in contact with his father from 7pm to 9pm, however, no record of his contact with the mother was established.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah asked the AG Islamabad about the status of the case after the indictment.

The trial court has been asked to complete the hearing of the case within 8 weeks, he replied to the honorable judge.

Justice Bandial said it seems that the mother was not involved in the heinous murder of Noor Mukadam.

Later, the court while granting bail to Asmat Adamjee ordered her to submit surety bonds of Rs1 million against her bail.

Jaffer is the prime suspect in Noor Mukadam’s murder case. The grisly murder, in which Mukadam was beheaded, took place on July 20 in Islamabad’s F-7 area.

Noor is the daughter of Shaukat Mukadam, who served as Pakistan’s ambassador to South Korea and Kazakhstan.

The Islamabad police arrested suspect Zahir Zakir Jaffer on the night of July 20 from his house where, according to Noor’s parents, he killed her with a sharp instrument and severed her head.
