He was released from the Camp Jail, Lahore, following the orders of Lahore High Court. The court had approved bail of Gullu Butt this morning.
He was charged for smashing vehicles and spreading terror in the public place.
Butt earned wrath of different segments of society when he was captured live by TV channels smashing public property during a clash between Pakistan Awami Tehreek activists and police in Model Town on June 17 that claimed over 20 lives, most of them the PAT members.
Gullu Butt is considered as a prominent activist of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and it is believed that Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif calls him Sher-e-Punjab (Loin of Punjab). Butt not only vandalized cars outside Mihaj Secretariat in Model Town, but was also seen leading the police team and issuing them instructions frequently during the PAT-police clash.
When he was under fire and facing legal action, his maternal uncle came to the limelight and said Butt was mentally ill.
