A fisherman in the United States has caught an extremely rare blue lobster, which is described as a ‘one-in-two-million’ kind of creature.
The rare sea creature was released back into the ocean after being caught. A photo of the cobalt beauty was shared on Twitter by Lars-Johan Larsson.
“This Lobster was caught off the coast of Portland yesterday and returned to the water to continue to grow. Blue lobsters are one in two million,” he wrote on Twitter.
The post left internet users amazed. One user wrote, “I was “today years old” when I discovered blue lobsters.” Another said, “Oh my goodness have never seen this… wonder what them blue,… instead of red.”
Lobsters are usually muddied brown or red in colour. However, according to the Lobster Institute at the University of Maine, the creature is very rare and the chances of finding one are one in two million.
According to the report, blue lobsters get this colour because of a genetic abnormality that causes an over-production of the protein crustacyanin. Such lobsters turn red when cooked.
