Opposition in Punjab Assembly submits resolution seeking PM’s resignation

LAHORE: Intensifying the campaign that launched in aftermath of Panamagate probe, the opposition parties on Friday joined hands to table a resolution in Punjab Assembly (PA) to demand resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The provincial legislators from opposition benches, who signed the resolution, include Dr Waseem Akhtar of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Faiza Ahmed Malik of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), Khadija Umar of Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) and number of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s lawmakers.

The move was headed by PTI’s Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed who is also the opposition leader in the provincial legislature.

Talking to media, he said all opposition parties of the Punjab Assembly are on one page over

the resignation of the premier. “The opposition benches in the house are demanding resignation as the regular appearance of the ruling family members before the JIT is tarnishing the country’s image,” Rasheed said.

Demanding the premier to step down till the final decision of the apex court in Panamagate probe, he also announced a movement to be launched against the rulers after July 10, claiming the nation is awaiting their call.

He also lashed out at Prime Minister’s daughter Maryam Nawaz for receiving excessive protocol during her appearance before the probing team.

He also slammed the allegations hurled by Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) against the judiciary, and the JIT.
