ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Saturday urged the opposition to join hands with the government for installing a caretaker setup for holding general elections.
“Unity is need of the hour as the enemy wants to fail China Pakistan Economic Corridor,” he said addressing the inauguration ceremony of mobile registration service in the country in Lahore.
He said Pakistan had become a strong economy and democracy was progressing in the country and general elections will be held on time.
Ahsan Iqbal said it was the success of democracy that Senate elections were held according to the schedule. He said no one should be allowed to create uncertainty in the country.

He said defeated forces won the Senate elections while victorious ones were defeated, however, every setback strengthened the democratic process. He said respect of courts should be maintained.
Meanwhile, addressing a prize distribution ceremony at Apa Nisar Fatima Girls High School in Lahore, he termed education and hard work as essential elements for achieving success. Ahsan Iqbal said positive approach is vital for ensuring progress in any field of life.
He said daughters of the country were proving their mettle in all fields and parents should ensure their educational process.
Later in Narowal, Ahsan Iqbal inaugurated a sub-campus of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.
The sub campus has been constructed on an area of 107 acres of land with a cost of Rs200 million.
Speaking on this occasion, Ahsan Iqbal said that the incumbent government wanted the universities to play the role of an engine in the process of national development.
He said university campuses would be set up in every district of the country during next two years.
The interior minister said Pakistan would be among 25 major economies of the world by 2025.
“Whenever Pakistan marched forward on the path to progress, its opponents created hurdles in the process of development,” he said.
He vowed that the conspiracies being hatched to halt Pakistan’s progress will not be allowed to be successful.
