Organ Trade Probe: FIA arrests middleman from Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA: The investigators into illegal organ trade have made a breakthrough by arresting an alleged agent of the gang from here, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) today arrested a suspected middleman, Abdul Majeed, allegedly involved in organs trade, from Gujranwala.

A gang involved in illegal organs trade was busted during an FIA raid in Lahore in April.

The middleman is allegedly responsible for guiding foreign patients seeking kidney transplants with the suspects arrested earlier, Dr Fawad and Dr Altamash, who were caught red-handed performing a surgery on a patient during the raid.

The FIA said the suspects had been involved in the illegal business of human organ transplantation for the last several years and most of their clients were foreign nationals.

The investigation agency had earlier arrested three members of the gang including a woman and lodged its first-ever case under the Human Organ Transplant Act.
