He told that Pak-Army personnel busted the gang named ‘Shuraa’, which had waged a cowardly attack on a school van, injuring three girls including Malala Yousufzai, while they were on their way to home.
The DG ISPR said that the gang used to act upon the instructions of Maulvi Fazlullah, chief of banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), who operates the outfit from Afghanistan and is involved in several attacks in Pakistan.
Maj. Gen. Asim Bajwa further told that the military personnel have not only arrested the culprits who had bombed the Ziarat Residency, but they also thwarted the Quetta airbase attack and the dockyard attack in Karachi.
He added that these attacks were foiled due to timely intelligence contribution.
Responding to a question about the rumors of military’s role in politics, the DG ISPR expressed his discontentment over the efforts to involve Pakistan Army into politics.
He said that the Pakistan Army has clearly extended its support for democracy in the state, yet the efforts to involve military in such issues were disappointing.
