Pakistan lodges protest with India over ceasefire violations, civilians’ death

ISLAMABAD: Ceasefire violations by India continued even on Tuesday after Indian troops resorted to ‘unprovoked’ firing along the line of control (LoC) and working boundary in Bhimber and Chuprar sectors respectively.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistani troops ‘befittingly’ responded to the Indian firing.

A civilian, Waqar, died on the Pakistani side of the border after latest firing episode by Indian forces in Chuprar sector, ARY News reported.

“India resorted to unprovoked firing across the Line of Control and the Working Boundary in the Bhimber and Chuprar sectors respectively today,” ISPR added.

“Till the filing of this report, the exchange of fire was ongoing,” a statement by the Public Relations wing of the Pakistani army said.

Pakistan once again lodged a protest in strong words with India and the United Nations Military Observers group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) over the killing of its civilians and repeated cross-border firing by Indian forces.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh on Tuesday and questioned him over ceasefire violations by Indian border forces (BSF), urging India to refrain from creating tensed circumstances for the soldiers along the border.

Indian and Pakistani troops regularly exchange fire across their de-facto border in Kashmir.

Even on Monday, two Pakistani civilians including a minor girl were killed as a result of firing by Indian forces.

“Due to Indian unprovoked firing last night a civilian, Muhammad Latif of village Janglora, and a minor Haniya, age one and a half, embraced Shahadat (martyrdom) while seven civilians were injured,” ISPR said on Monday in a statement.
