Pakistan believes in dialogues for peace in Afghanistan: FO

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal on Wednesday said Pakistan always believed in dialogues for bringing back peace in Afghanistan, ARY News reported.

In his statement issued here on Wednesday, Dr Faisal said the Afghan issue could only be resolved through dialogues between the stakeholders.

“Pakistan has always remained a supporter for the peace process in Afghanistan,” he continued.

The FO spokesperson said the international community also backs Pakistan’s stance of reconciliation on the Afghan issue.

He said Pakistan believes in a peaceful neighbourhood and desirous of peace and friendship with all its neighbouring countries.

‘Pakistan committed to efforts for peace in Afghanistan’

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Thursday (December 27) had said his country was committed to efforts for peace in Afghanistan as it is crucial for peace in Pakistan.

He was talking to Commander Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan General Austin Scott Mille, who called on him in Rawalpindi.

During the meeting matters of mutual interest with particular reference to regional security and ongoing Afghan reconciliation process were discussed, said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Both the military leaders expressed unanimity of views on the importance of political resolution of Afghan situation and underlined that only an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led inclusive process could lead to peace in Afghanistan.

They also reaffirmed the need for continuing harmonised efforts against terrorists and for effective border management.
