Three Pakistan Railways officers suspended for negligence in train derailment

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways on Tuesday suspended its three officers for ignorance and negligence which led to the incident of derailment of a freight train in Sukkur Division, ARY News reported.

The officers were suspended on order of the chairman Pakistan Railways, said the spokesperson PR.

He said Deputy Divisional Superintendent Sukkur Qasim Zahoor was also suspended as he was found absent from his duty without informing.

The PR spokesman said the Permanent Way Inspector Khanpur and Head Train Examiner Khanewal were also suspended.

A three-member investigation committee had been formed to probe the incident. The probe team comprised of Chief Engineer Operations Nisar Memon, Chief Mechanical Engineer Rahat Mirza and COS Aamir Baloch, he added.

The committee will present its report into the incident in three days.

Three coaches of a passenger train had derailed owing to a blast on a railway track near Shaheed Aziz Billo check post in Dera Murad Jamali, killing at least three people, including a woman.

According to police, several other passengers had also sustained injuries as a result of the incident.

Last year in October, a blast had damaged at least 10 feet of railway tracks near Machh, Balochistan.
