Pakistan reiterates continued support for independent, sovereign Palestinian State

JERUSALEM: Pakistan will continue to support the establishment of a viable, independent and sovereign State of Palestine and with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

This was stated by Pakistan Ambassador to the United States Aizaz Chaudhry, while speaking with media in Washington.

He condemned the unprovoked violence unleashed by Israeli forces against unarmed Palestinians in Gaza who were peacefully protesting the opening of US Embassy in Al-Quds.

The ambassador said Pakistan fully endorsed the communique issued at recently concluded Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in Turkey urging the international community, including UN Security Council, to play its role in resolving the Palestine issue.

Palestinians seek East Jerusalem as the capital of their state which they had prior to welcoming Jews to their land following the Holocaust.

Israel regards all of the city, including the eastern sector it captured in the 1967 Middle East war and annexed in a move that is not recognized internationally, as its “eternal and indivisible capital”.

Peace talks aimed at finding a two-state solution to the conflict have been frozen since 2014.
