Pakistan in a state of war, says PM

Government took stringent measures within democratic parameters against terrorism, he told while addressing the Senate session here.

Mr. Sharif reiterated that Pakistan was in a state of war. We invited all political parties to form National Action Plan, he added.

He underlined that the government, after December 16 [when barbaric Taliban attack on Peshawar school left 134 children dead], worked day and night to implement the National Action Plan.

The PM said, “If we fail to take extraordinary measures, we may not be able to stop brutalities in time to come.”

He was of the view that committee tasked with forming anti-terror plan completed its work within time.

Without direct mentioning of foreign concerns over executions, Mr. Sharif said, “we respect human rights, but cannot turn our society into jungle for rights of terrorists.”

“We launched Zarb-e-Azb against militants, after all efforts for peace turned out to be futile.”

The PM said 50,000 Pakistanis sacrificed their lives due to terrorism. He told that banned outfits will be banned in letter and spirit. He assured that no group or force could take law into its hands.

“We will protect and ensure freedom of press. We think it’s necessary that other aspects should also be vetted.”

He said the nation should focus on eradicating terrorism from the country.

“Our destination is not so far to achieve our results [in fight against terrorism],” said the PM.
