In an interview the minister said that the government has signed a long term LNG agreement with Qatar worth 16 billion dollars adding that five more agreements would be made with the country in future.
He said the government has achieved a milestone by reaching LNG deal with Qatar.
He said that LNG was only way out to meet growing energy demands of the country and to overcome energy shortage.
He said the government realizing its responsibility, initiated a number of energy projects to provide uninterrupted power supply to the consumers.
Abbasi said that three ships carrying LNG cargo will anchor at Pakistan ports every month.
Opposition alleges foul play
The parliamentary opposition has raised objections over the LNG deal claiming fould play in the energy agreement with Qatar.
Chairman Senate Committee for Finance Saleem Mandviwala has alleged the prime ministers and his cabinet colleagues have been involved in corruption in 15-year LNG deal with Qatar.
He claimed that the port expenses of the LNG import and converting the liquid gas into gas will be thrown on the shoulders of the people.
