WASHINGTON: US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan while underscoring the importance of cooperation and coordination between Washington and Islamabad has said greater cooperation between both countries is vital for region.
He said this while speaking to Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal who called on him here to discuss the Pak-US relations and regional security issues.
Sullivan said certain regional elements wanted to see instability in Afghanistan.
He said cooperation between the US and Pakistan was essential for accomplishing the common goal of rooting out terrorism from the region.
The two officials discussed the Pak-US ties and security issues at length, according to a spokesperson for Pakistan Embassy in Washington.
In his remarks, the minister said peace in the war-torn country of Afghanistan was imperative for the progress of Pakistan.
He stressed the need for working out a joint framework for addressing irritants in the ties.
Iqbal said Pakistan was on the path of progress because of peace in the country.
He said peace was restored in the country through implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP). Pakistan had to pay a huge price for bringing peace in the country, he added.
