ISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif on Tuesday said Pakistani forces’ role in Saudi Arabia-led Islamic Military Alliance (IMA) would be limited within the boundary of Saudi Arabia, ARY News reported.
“Pakistan has an old relation with different Gulf countries. We are just providing facilities for military training,” he said in a statement.
He said Saudi Arabia had written a letter to us seeking services of former Army chief general (retd) Raheel Sharif, who has been named the IMA’s first commander-in-chief, and alliance in the military.
The minister said the government of Saudi Arabia has been informed in writing that the country has no objection over the former army chief’s leading the military alliance.

He said Iran’s reservations regarding alliance with the IMA would be cleared. “We will still not interfere in Yemen,” he said.
Earlier today, Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua said that IMA is against terrorism and not against any particular country.
Speaking during a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, she assured that Pakistan remains committed to policy of non-interference in the conflicts of Muslim countries.
“The Islamic military alliance is against terrorism, not any (specific) country,” said Janjua in response to a question by committee chairman Awais Leghari.
