Three people killed in roof collapse in Lahore

LAHORE: At least three people were killed while two others suffered injuries when the roof of a club building came down on them in the provincial capital Lahore on Friday night.

Rescue sources said that the roof of Bagh-e-Jinnah’s Cosmopolitan Club collapsed, burying five people under the debris.

After being informed of the incident, rescue teams arrived at the site and began an operation to rescue the trapped people.

Three dead bodies were recovered from the rubble, while two people were rescued alive, a rescue official said.

One of the deceased was identified as Amin, while the identity of the rest couldn’t be ascertained immediately.

The dead bodies and injured were shifted to a nearby hospital. One of the injured was discharged after initial medical aid, a health official said.

Meanwhile, the police have taken a contractor into custody after registration of first information report (FIR) of the incident.

Reports say the “dilapidated building” was under repair when the incident took place.
