General (R) Musharraf said that there was currently a crisis of political leadership in the country, due to which politicians resorted to the use of financial resources to win elections. In turn, when these corrupt individuals got elected, they looted billions from the state coffers to get compensated.
Musharraf said that corruption had harmed Pakistan the most and that Sindh was the province in which corruption was the most rampant. The retired general also stressed on the need to adopt accountability in Punjab as well and stated that corruption cases should be tried in military courts.
Musharraf also expressed concern on Pakistan’s debt crisis and said that the Rs 45 billion that Pakistan received from China would also require us to pay interest on it.
He also criticized Ayaz Sadiq and said that not accepting resignations from National Assembly members was also in violation of Pakistan’s constitution, which is punishable by law.
Musharraf said that the General Elections of 2013 should be nullified and a new setup of Interim Government should be put in place. This setup should be backed by the military and judiciary. This system must operate for 3 years and restructure, re-engineer the whole system.
“I agree absolutely with Imran Khan’s allegation that former Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was involved in electoral rigging,” he said. Musharraf also said that the whole world had seen how unarmed civilians were shot in the Model Town incident. He called for the perpetrators of Model Town incident to be tried in military courts.
Speaking on the subject of India-Pakistan relations, Musharraf said that India had adopted a hostile situation before by placing its army on our borders. He said that Pakistan Army had also been deployed and after much eyeballing, the Indians had retreated.
Musharraf said that India as well as Pakistan both had plenty weapons which could cause destruction on a mass scale. Hence, he said that it must be clear to all that in an event of war, the conflict would not be a short-scaled one.
