Pervez Rashid appears before SC in PTV chairman appointment case

ISLAMABAD: Former information minister Pervaiz Rashid appeared in the Supreme Court on Thursday in the case pertaining to the appointment of chairman of Pakistan Television (PTV).

During the hearing, Pervaiz Rashid stated that the appointment of Attaullah Haq Qasmi as chairman PTV along with his salary and due privileges were in accordance to law.

“A summary related to his [Attaullah] privileges was sought from the finance division; if anything was questionable then finance division could have warned me,” Pervaiz added.

The top court has also summoned secretary finance, finance minister and treasure secretary in the case.

Chief Justice Saqib Nisar asked on what basis Attaullah enjoyed the perks of his job fin personal capacity.

Attorney General informed the court that prior to Attaullah’s appointment, there were four chairmen of PTV and none of them including Pervaiz Rashid didn’t take any privilege. “Attaullah Qasmi was hired as Managing Director, not even as chairman, yet he enjoyed all privileges,” attorney general noted.

The apex court remarked that the verdict of the case will be limited to only Attaullah Haq Qasmi which will be announced on July 9.
