LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Friday claimed to have unearthed eized more than 364,000 rotten eggs from two cold stores in Salamat Pura area of Lahore, ARY News reported.
According to details, the raids were conducted under the supervision of Provincial Minister for Food Samilullah Chaudhry and PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman on Friday night on a tip-off from PFA’s Vigilance Cell.
DG Food Authority Muhammad Usman told media that rotten eggs were preserved behind of drums in cold store to keep away from the eye of authority but authority discovered. He said that eggs were purchased from different hatcheries on low-priced and had to supply on different bakeries.
Minister Samiullah Chaudhry said that the authority has imposed Rs0.1 million fine on a cold store over recovery 350,000 rotten eggs while the other store was asked to pay Rs50,000 as fine after the recovery of at least 14,000 putrid eggs.
“Our aim is to control the wicked practice and ensure the provision of quality eggs in the market,” said the minister.
The authority discarded all seized putrid eggs after bringing at dumping sites in Lakhodair.
It is pertinent to note here that so far, the food authority has discarded more than 2.6 million rotten eggs after confiscating from various cities of Punjab including Lahore, Chichawatni, Sahiwal, Sheikhupura.
