PFA foils attempt to supply over 100, 000 rotten eggs

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Thursday foiled an attempt to supply thousands of rotten eggs in the markets of the province, ARY News reported.

According to a statement issued by PFA, the authority discarded all seized eggs as per the environmental protection principles at a waste dumping site in the presence of Minister for Food Samiullah Chaudhry and Director General PFA Captain (R) Muhammad Usman.

Talking to media, DG PFA Muhammad Usman said that thousands of discarded eggs were being carried on a truck to an egg powder factory from a hatchery.

He added that PFA foiled this dirty attempt to deliver stale and rotten eggs before the start of winter on a tip off received from authority’s vigilance cell and strict action was taken against the suppliers and the hatchery.

The eggs were being supplied for manufacturing of egg powder which in turn would have been supplied to a famous biscuit maker.

DG FIA revealed that last year, PFA had confiscated one million rotten eggs last year from an egg powder company.

It is pertinent to note here that just yesterday, PFA conducted a massive operation to crack down on food points violating food safety regulations along the route of Lahore-Islamabad motorway.

The authority sealed one fast food outlet while fining another over violation of food safety regulations.
